This page describes the benefits and cost (if any) of registering in the Home-Based Business Directory for British Columbia. A description of optional services is also provided, together with a registration form that can be filled in online.
Benefits/cost of registration.
My purpose in developing the Home-Based Business Directory is to provide an inexpensive means for an individual running a small business out of their home to promote their products and/or services via the internet. Although it is my primary intent to provide such individuals with exposure within their local community or neighbourhood, it is possible for them to reach a much wider customer/client base within B.C., within Canada and around the world. The HBB Directory allows home-based business owners, who would perhaps not have the opportunity nor the knowledge to do so, to have a presence in cyberspace (i.e. on the World Wide Web). The hbb entrepreneur need not have any experience in computing or the internet to take advantage of this service, and even owning a computer is not mandatory - the information and registration form are also available in hard copy. The HBB Directory is registered with Search BC, a search engine catering specifically to individuals and businesses within British Columbia.
General Registration:
General Registration will provide a description of your home-based business under any single business category of your choosing. This is only available to those home-based businesses operating in British Columbia, Canada. From the listing links can be provided to any existing web site that you may have or to your e-mail address. Under any one category, the businesses will be listed in ascending order of date registered (i.e. the earliest date at the top of the list). Click here to view a sample of General Registration. General Registration will be free until the 30th June, 1999. Starting on 1st July, 1999, the cost for General Registration will be $30 for six months and $50 for one year. Other information:
With registration and at no additional cost you will have the option to provide information on the background of your business and/or the qualifications of yourself or your staff. Such background information could contain anecdotes or tips directed at those considering starting their own home-based business, or helpful hints and experiences to assist those already in business. Additional directory listings:
If you feel that your products and/or services cannot be described under a single category, up to four additional listings can each be purchased for the same cost as a General Registration. For the additional listings there will be no free trial period and charges will begin immediately. The listings will be cross-linked.
Seasonal and discounted products and/or services:
An area on a special page will be available to those businesses that have a seasonal product or service for sale, or wish to promote a discounted product or service. These will be listed by season, product or service category of your choosing. Under any one category, the businesses will be listed in ascending order of date that the special item was registered (i.e. the earliest date at the top of the list). Each single special product or service listing will cost $10 for one month, with a maximum of five per directory listing. Web page development and storage:
If you would like to provide more information to your potential clients/customers than is possible through the HBB Directory listing, we can design a simple single web page to be placed on the HBB Directory web site at nominal cost. For more ambitious web pages we are able to develop a web site and arrange web hosting for an address registered as "www.[your_company].bc.ca". Discussion will be necessary to determine a fair and equitable price based on the nature and complexity of the web page. Whatever type of web page or web site you selects to use, it can be accessed through a link in the HBB Directory.
Method of payment.
There is no charge for registering a single category until 1st July, 1999.
Once you have filled in the form below and have clicked the "Submit Registration" button, the form will be transmitted. If this is a new registration, you should receive an e-mail with your Registration Number within a couple of days. Please reply to the e-mail to confirm the registration and the listing for your business will be added to the Home-Based Business Directory of B.C. If you are changing an existing directory listing, be sure to include your Registration Number in the text box provided, then include all information (not just the changed information) as you wish it to appear in the directory listing.
