| B.C. HOME-BASED BUSINESS DIRECTORY | ||
| There has been a tremendous
growth in the number of businesses run from Canadian homes over the past few years, and
the growth is continuing at an ever increasing rate. Home-based businesses are run by
working parents, students, retirees, the handicapped, and by individuals from many walks
of life, either out of a desire to be self-employed or out of financial necessity. Such
entrepreneurs are successful in selling products and/or services by making use of their
talents, their skills or by shear hard work. If you own a home-based business it is
difficult to become recognized in your community and, if you are a potential client or
customer, it is difficult to locate a local home-based business that will provide the
service or product that you need at reasonable cost. For this reason, I have developed
this B.C. Home-Based Business Directory. When looking for a particular product or service,
please look here first and support your local entrepreneurs. GO THERE NOW. For the potential clients or customer this directory provides a list of home-based businesses in British Columbia providing products and/or services, sorted by business category. A listing of time-limited discounted products and services and seasonal products is also provided, sorted by product. For the home-based business owner this directory provides a means of advertising their products and services to potential clients and customers on the internet. The entrepreneur need not own a computer or have internet access to make use of this directory. In addition, links can be provided to a business owner's existing web site and/or e-mail account plus, if requested, we can work with the owner to develop a simple web page of their own to be installed on our server and linked to their directory listing. Apart from the directory, links are provided to sites catering to the small business owner. For people considering starting their own home-based business, a forum is provided for existing registrants to tell others how they got started in their business and to outline some of the pitfalls and benefits they have found. Registration is available on-line and is free until the end of June, 1999. |

| FAMILY SURVIVAL | ||
| In 1983, in order to provide the best possible protection for my family and and my new home against the possibility of fire, I set about collecting information. I gathered brochures where I could, spent hours at the local library, talked to the Fire Prevention Office, walked around hardware and specialty stores to see what types of protection equipment was available, wrote to manufacturers of devices for information, contacted protection agencies and standards associations, etc. One thing was perfectly clear - the information I wanted could not be found in any one place. I decided to jot down all the relevant information I could, and make this available to households across Canada. I spent three years putting the book together, completed it, but never had it published for various reasons. I had some great ideas about creating a series of volumes on family survival, but never had the time to pursue them. By placing volume one of this series on the web, I will get the satisfaction that others may be able to benefit from my three years of labour. Although dated in some respect, it is still relavent in many others. I currently have nine out of the sixteen chapters of Volume 1 - Fire Prevention and Protection for the House Owner transferred to web format and will continue to work on the others as time permits.
